The Maroondah Exchange
This Week Around Maroondah
Issue release: Tuesday 14 July 2026
Good morning,
Welcome to the first edition of The Maroondah Exchange newsletter. Each week, we will pull together useful local updates, things to do, community opportunities and practical notes from around Maroondah.
This first edition is a starting point: a clear weekly guide, a refined Weekend Planner and a few local items worth knowing before the week gets away from you.
WHAT'S WORTH YOUR TIME THIS WEEK
A Few Useful Local Updates
From free wellbeing support to community grants and local recognition, these are the items that felt most useful for readers this week.
Free Wellbeing Support Across Maroondah
The Maroondah Lift Project is underway, offering a free 10-week mental health and wellbeing program for the Maroondah community.
There are online and face-to-face options, with local venues including Croydon Community Hub, Croydon Library and Realm. Different streams suit different groups, so the best place to start is the main project page.
Two Small Grants To Know About
Maroondah's Quick Response Grants are open for eligible community groups and individuals. They are designed for smaller opportunities, projects and support needs that may not fit larger grant rounds.
If you are involved in a local group, club, creative project or community activity, this is worth checking before the next deadline passes you by.
Nominate A Young Person Doing Good Things
Nominations are open for the 2026 Maroondah Youth Awards, recognising young people aged 10 to 25 who live, work, study or spend time in Maroondah.
If you know someone quietly contributing, creating, helping or leading in their own way, this is worth passing on.
Recognise A Local Volunteer
Nominations are open for the Bill Wilkins Volunteer Award, which recognises people who make a meaningful contribution through volunteering in Maroondah.
It is a quiet but important local reminder: many of the things that make a community work are carried by people who do not always seek the spotlight.
Proudly Q Continues In Croydon
Proudly Q runs after school on Wednesdays in Croydon for LGBTQIA+ young people, young people who are questioning, and allies.
There are separate groups for ages 10-14 and 15-25. Registration is essential, and the exact venue details are provided through the program.
WEEKEND PLANNER
Selected Highlights For The Weekend
Wednesday 15 July to Sunday 19 July 2026
From live comedy in Ringwood to youth theatre at Karralyka, jazz at the bowls club, a free author talk and a local planting morning, this week's planner has a useful mix of things to do close to home.
MX Highlights
Comedy & Cocktails 3 With Dave Thornton & More
Friday 17 July, 7:30pm
The Budgie Cocktail Bar, Ringwood
A strong local night-out pick, with Dave Thornton headlining at an independent Ringwood venue. It gives this week's planner a clear adult evening option outside the usual theatre setting.
Mary Poppins Jr.
Friday 17 July, 7:30pm
Saturday 18 July, 2:30pm
Karralyka, Ringwood East
A familiar family story with a local youth-theatre angle. Sleeping Star Productions features young performers aged 8-14, and this is the group's 24th annual production. The Saturday matinee makes it especially practical for families.
Jazz On Sundays At Ringwood Bowls Club
Sunday 19 July, doors 1:00pm
Music from 1:30pm
Ringwood Bowls Club
One of the strongest value picks this week. More than 30 musicians are involved, including a 17-piece big band, guest vocals, an open mic and a closing jam. Entry is $15, with under-16s free.
