If you live in the Croydon electorate, the names you'll see on your ballot paper on 28 November have shifted in the past week. Here's what has changed, what hasn't been settled yet, and where you can get your head around how voting works.

A new Liberal candidate for Croydon

The Liberal Party has replaced its Croydon candidate. Grant Hutchinson was disendorsed on Monday night, 12 October, and Toby Wooldridge will now stand for the party in Croydon, the ABC reported on Tuesday.

Opposition leader Jess Wilson said Mr Hutchinson was disendorsed after new information came to light about a civil case he is involved in, a lawsuit he brought against his own law firm. "It's no longer appropriate for him to be a candidate," Ms Wilson said. The ABC reported that Mr Hutchinson did not respond to its requests for comment.

Croydon is an open seat

David Hodgett, who has been the member for Croydon for 20 years, is retiring at this election. So whoever wins, Croydon will have a new local member in the lower house.

A change in the upper house too

You also vote for the upper house, the Legislative Council. Croydon sits in the North-Eastern Metropolitan Region, which elects five members.

Labor's Sonja Terpstra, who has represented the region since 2018, has stepped away from contesting this election, the Star Mail reported on 13 October. Fellow Labor MP for the region Shaun Leane announced his retirement in December last year.

The ballot isn't final yet

Parties and independents can still change before the official list is set. Candidates nominate with the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC), and nominations close at 12 noon on Monday 9 November. That's when you'll know exactly who is on your ballot.

Dates to know

  • Tue 3 November, 8pm: last chance to enrol or update your details.

  • Mon 9 November, 12 noon: candidate nominations close.

  • Wed 18 November: early voting opens.

  • Sat 28 November: election day, 8am to 6pm.

A free voting session at Croydon Library

If you'd like to understand how voting works before the day, the VEC is running a voting information session at Croydon Library on Thursday 22 October at 6:30pm. It's listed by Your Library as an adult event. It's worth checking the Your Library events page before you go, in case details change.
